I’m a freelance copyeditor based in London, working across fiction and non-fiction. I was chosen to take part in Hachette’s Changing the Story Freelancer Training Programme, as featured in the Bookseller.

Copyediting is a vital but delicate part of the publishing process; through my experience and training, I have honed my ability to protect and enhance the author’s voice whilst guaranteeing accuracy and consistency.

I have a love for the written word, and as a copyeditor, I feel it is a privilege to play a key role in the realisation of authors’ creativity.

In addition to being a trained copyeditor, I have over 4 years’ experience in the public sector, where I’ve held significant briefing and drafting responsibilities. This has included editing complex papers and wide-reaching communications that I adapted to different audiences and ensured were written lucidly.

I completed early edits on an unpublished manuscript, Rapture by Dunni Abisayo, which has since been shortlisted for a number of literary prizes, including Discoveries 2024 and the #Merky Books New Writers’ Prize 2024.

Qualifications

I have completed Publishing Training Centre (PTC) courses in copyediting, proofreading, editorial project management and freelancing via Hachette’s highly competitive Changing the Story Freelancer Training Programme. I was one of five successful candidates out of over 650 applicants.

I have an English BA (First Class Honours) from King’s College London.

Languages

I am fluent in speaking Urdu and reading Arabic. I am also semi-fluent in French.
